This is my sixth year participating in the Walk for Rice to help raise funds for the ACRS Food Bank, and my fourth year serving as the Team Captain for Team Blaine!
I am fundraising for Walk for Rice in memory of my grandmother, Vera Ing. My grandma was a longtime active supporter of our local Asian American community, and the International District in particular. Joining this walk allows me to honor my grandmother's many civic contributions by helping to feed hungry Asian American and Pacific Islanders and others in the community that she loved.
The ACRS Food Bank provides vital support to over 5,500 people (who total more than 100,000 visits) every year by supplying culturally appropriate foods such as rice, tofu and Asian vegetables. Without its resources, many families would go hungry.
This year, ACRS is launching Walk for Rice online instead of hosting the event at Seward Park, to ensure everyone’s safety during the global pandemic health crisis. While the event location has changed, the ACRS Food Bank’s need for our help is greater than ever.
In response to COVID-19, ACRS quickly shifted food bank operations from walk-in distribution to home deliveries, providing emergency food in the safest way possible. With help from community partners and volunteers, ACRS Food Bank is currently delivering 1,200 bags of groceries and 1,300 culturally familiar meals weekly to seniors and those in need, and the demand is growing.
Thank you in advance for supporting this important AAPI community resource by making a tax-deductible contribution to my Walk For Rice page. Whatever you can give will help, because EVERY GRAIN OF RICE AND EVERY DOLLAR COUNTS!
