Walk for Rice 2021

As you all know, the challenges, discrimination and injustices faced by the Asian Pacific Islander (API) community have been front and center in the news recently especially during the pandemic.

One way we can help our most vulnerable API families is by supporting the Asian Counseling and Referral Service (ACRS) Food Bank, which benefits over 5,000 local families every year!

I created SDOT's RISE API (Rally for Inclusion, Solidarity, and Equity, Asian Pacific Islander) Walk for Rice Team, and I'm inviting you to join Team RISE API. The more people the merrier, and together we can raise funds for the ACRS Food Bank. For those who feel comfortable, we are planning to do an in person 5k walk around Seward Park starting around 10 AM on June 12.

Walk for Rice makes it possible for ACRS to purchase and distribute staples of the API diet, including rice, tofu, noodles and bok choi. Without its resources, many families would go hungry.

In response to COVID-19, ACRS quickly shifted food bank operations from walk-in distribution to home deliveries, providing emergency food in the safest way possible. With help from community partners and volunteers, they are currently delivering 1,200 bags of groceries and 1,300 culturally familiar meals weekly to seniors and those in need, and the demand is growing.

Will you join my Walk for Rice team or donate to Team RISE API?
