Event Information

  1. When and where will the 27th Annual ACRS Walk for Rice be held?
    The 27th Annual ACRS Walk for Rice will be held at Seward Park on Saturday, June 24th. The main entrance to Seward Park is located at 5902 Lake Washington Blvd S.  The City of Seattle has driving directions and Metro Online Trip Planner has bus info.

  2. What is the event schedule:
    -7:30 a.m.  -  First shuttle leaves ACRS for Seward Park
    -8:00 a.m.  -  Registration opens
    -9:00 a.m.  -  International Lion Dance & Martial Arts Team
    -9:10 a.m.  -  Welcome

  3. Is there parking available at the event?
    There is VERY limited parking available (see map) at Seward Park. We recommend carpooling or using public transportation. If you do drive and park in the surrounding area, please obey all traffic laws and be respectful to residents of the neighborhood. Be careful not to litter, block driveways or knock over waste bins.

    To help relieve congestion in and around Seward Park, ACRS offers a special shuttle from our building (3639 MLK Jr. Way S) to the event. Simply park (free of charge!) in our lot and catch the shuttle to Walk for Rice. Service begins at 7:30 a.m. and continues every 20 minutes until 1:30p.m.

  4. Is there a place to store my things while I walk or run?
    Unfortunately, we are not able to provide storage for personal belongings at the event.

  1. Do I have to pre-register, or can I just show up on June 24th?
    Every year lots of people register the day of Walk for Rice, but because we encourage you to sign up online early and send out sponsorship requests before the event. Trust us, it’s better to skip the long lines! 

  2. If I registered for last year’s Walk for Rice, do I have to register again this year? 
    No. If you are a returning participant from 2016, you can register with previous log in information.  

  3. How do I register my children or friends/family withOUT an email address?
    Please send a message to and include the name, address, team name, t-shirt size, and month and year of birth--if registrering someone under 18, of the person you would like to register. We can register that person, add them to your team, and send you an email confirmation.

  4. I’m having trouble registering online or don’t know where to start.  What should I do?
    We have included a step-by-step guide called “Registration 101” - check under the RESOURCES tab located at the top of the page. If you are still having problems, please feel free to email or call (206)695-7551.  

  5. I didn’t get an email notification of my registration and/or donation.  What’s wrong?
    You may see a delay between action on the website and an email confirmation.  Try refreshing your browser after a few minutes.  If you still have nothing, check your junk email folder. Finally, contact or (206)695-7551 to confirm registration/donation.

  1. How do I raise money?
    First, register online to set-up your personal fundraising web page. Then, send emails to your friends, relatives and coworkers inviting them to sponsor you, learn more about Walk for Rice and support the ACRS Food Bank. We have created email templates available online once you log in to the Participant Center. We also have a lot of great fundraising tips in the Supporter Toolkit located under the RESOURCES tab at the top of the page.

  2. Where do the funds I raise go?
    Your donations and sponsorships go directly to Asian Counseling and Referral Service, a nationally-recognized nonprofit organization offering a variety of health and social services to Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in King County. All funds raised will support the 27th Annual ACRS Walk for Rice and will be used to purchase food and other costs associated with the ACRS Food Bank, Nutrition and Emergency Feeding Program.

  3. What if I'm out of town or already have other plans on June 24, the day of Walk for Rice?
    You can still help make the 27th annual ACRS Walk for Rice a success!  Sign up online to access all our fundraising tools (like email templates and your personal fundraising page).  Or help donate to a friend or family member who is registered. Remember, you don’t have to raise funds to walk, and you don’t have to walk to fundraise! Participation of any kind helps raise awareness about hunger in our community.  

  4. Are there any fundraising incentive prizes for walkers? How do I get them?  And how will you know how much I’ve raised?
    YES! We offer four different incentive levels for fundraisers (see images on Facebook - for illustrative purposes, actual products may vary):
    • $100: 27th annual ACRS Walk for Rice Water Bottle
    • $250: 27th annual ACRS Walk for Rice T-shirt
    • $500: 27th annual ACRS Walk for Rice Bowl
    • $1,000: 27th annual ACRS Walk for Rice Sweatshirt

These incentives are based on individual fundraising only and cumulative, meaning if you raise $1,000 or more, you get all four! Prizes will be distributed at the Walk, and are available while supplies last. Your participant page allows us to track your progress, and any offline gifts or day-of donations will be added to your total. This means that you can fundraise right up to the day of Walk for Rice! Fundraising totals from the Walk for Rice website will be accurate as of 4 p.m. on June 23.

  1. I want to make a donation but do not want to do so online.  What should I do?
    Donating online is the fastest and easiest way to give to Walk for Rice, and all online transactions are secure.  However, if you choose to make an offline donation please fill out the offline donation form located under the RESOURCES tab and make sure to list the walker/runner you’d like to sponsor. You can drop off offline donations in person or mail to ACRS (Attn. Development, 3639 Martin Luther King Jr. Way S, Seattle, WA 98144).

  2. Can I donate food instead of money?  
    YES. One great tradition of Walk for Rice is people donating rice, ramen, soymilk and other foods to help support the ACRS Food Bank.  Please fill out the WFR In-Kind Donation Form (located under RESOURCES tab) and bring it with your donation to the event. This form is very important – without it, we cannot issue a thank you acknowledgment, which can be used for tax deductions, and cannot tie the donation to your personal fundraising effort – so remember to bring it! Following is a list of preferred in-kind food donation items: Canned Protein Items (Tuna, Salmon, Chicken, Mackerel), Mung/Red Beans, Soy Sauce, Dry Noodles, Rice, Seaweed, and Cooking oil.

  3. Will I get a receipt for my donation to use for my taxes? 
    A tax receipt will be emailed to you immediately following your online donation. If you have any concerns regarding your tax receipt, please email

Sponsorship Questions

  1. If someone sponsors me with a check, how will I get credited?
    Please have the donor fill out an offline donation form and attach it to their check.  These can be found under the RESOURCES tab (NOTE: these forms will look slightly different, but will ask for the same info).  Please also write your (the walker's) name on the memo line of the check. We will make sure to apply the check to your total.  

  2. I’m asking friends to sponsor me.  Is it okay if they give me cash (or make a check out to my name) and I just write one check for all of the donations? 
    We prefer each individual donation accompany a separate offline donation form with the donor’s name and contact information.  Filling these out only takes a moment, and allows us to properly thank each person with an official donation receipt, which can be used for tax purposes. Without separate forms and payments, we can only legally thank the individual whose name is on the check. NO EXCEPTIONS.

  3. I own a business and want to get involved in Walk for Rice. Who should I contact?

  4. What do I do with my matching gift forms?
    Matching gift forms may be mailed to Asian Counseling and Referral Service, Attn: Walk for Rice, 3639 MLK Way S, Seattle, WA 98144.  When we receive the necessary paperwork, we will credit it towards your fundraising goal. 

  5. How do I know if my company matches charitable contributions?
    Generally, the human resources department should be able to confirm if the company matches charitable contributions. Check out the company webpage, or contact the human resource department directly!

Volunteering and Miscellaneous

  1. How do I volunteer for Walk for Rice?
    We can always use volunteers! For volunteer positions available, please email, or call (206) 695-7637. 

  2. Does Walk for Rice have a Facebook Page?
    Yes! Please support Walk for Rice by “liking” our page and keep up to date on all current information, news, and event photos.

  3. If I email friends and family through Walk for Rice’s website, will they get ACRS mail?
    No. Email addresses entered into the Walk for Rice website through the Participant Center are confidential and will not receive email from ACRS or Walk for Rice.

  4. Can I bring my dog?
    Yes, friendly, leashed dogs are always welcome! Please bring supplies to clean up after your pet.
