What is Walk for Rice?

Walk for Rice is a fund-raising event featuring a 2.5 mile walk/run. Each year, over 1,000 participants help raise money for Asian Counseling and Referral Service (ACRS) to buy rice and other food for the ACRS Food Bank.

When and where?

SATURDAY, JUNE 30, 2018, 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at Seward Park (5902 Lake Washington Blvd S) in Seattle.

How do I get there?

ACRS offers shuttle service from our building on 3639 MLK Jr. Way S. You can park for free in our lot and catch a shuttle to Seward Park. Shuttle service begins at 7:30 a.m. and continue every 20-30 minutes until 1:30 p.m. NOTE: PARKING IS LIMITED AT SEWARD PARK. Who participates?

As ACRS’ signature community event, Walk for Rice brings in a diverse crowd of families, church groups, sororities and fraternities, professional associations and others. We're proud to partner with major businesses and nonprofits including Pacific Market International, Swedish, HomeStreet Bank,CityU, Morgan Stanley, Chinn Construction, Coordinated Care, and Pepsi . All ages are welcome – so are friendly, leashed dogs.

Why is participating in the Walk important?

The ACRS Food Bank is the one of the most visited food banks in King County, and the only one in the state that regularly provides foods that are familiar to the Asian and Pacific Islander (AAPI) diet. Each year, more than 5,200 people rely on our food bank and nutrition programs to have enough to eat. More than 56% of our clients are children under 18 years or seniors over 65. Most come from low-income, AAPI households. Our food bank is located in Seattle’s Chinatown International District and provides items like rice, tofu, noodles, fish and fresh produce. Our goal is to help clients lead healthy lives by providing them with nutritious food.
